Prayers That Get Answers: Colossians 1:12-20
The apostle Paul prayed for the Colossian church, and his prayer is applicable to us today. Prayers like Paul’s will most definitely be answered. Why? Because the Scripture said we can have confidence that if we ask anything according to God’s will, he hears us. And if we know he hears us, we know we will receive the petition we ask of Him (1 John 5:15-16). Paul prayed that the Lord may “fill us with wisdom and knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, strengthened with [all] power according to his glorious might so that we may have great endurance and patience, giving joyful thanks to the Father who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light” (Colossians 1:11-12).
I believe
a person's prayer life will dictate his or her attitude and responses to life's
daily events. And if we have no expectation when we pray, then why pray? During
the ebb and flow of life, we must seek God's will for each situation that
visits our lives. And upon discovery of His will, we must pray accordingly. I
for one, have developed a practice to ask the Lord to reveal His will for each
circumstance in my life, and with persistence, I continue to seek His face
until I get an answer, or receive inner peace to stop praying for that
particular situation.
So, the
first aspect of this Reflection is PRAYING according to God's will for each
circumstance that visits our lives. Second, if you do not know His will for
that particular, circumstance, then ASK Him. Sometimes it seems much easier to
ask everyone else what to do before asking God who knows everything. Third,
pray with EXPECTATION of an answer.
The next
aspect I would like to share in this reflection is the fact that the LORD has
qualified us to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of
light. If you take inventory of your life, can you say with certainty that you
are enjoying the abundance of your inheritance that is intended for you while
being here on earth? Let's take an earthly father for example with his son or
daughter. All that the father has in his personal kingdom, will be the child's
inheritance when the father dies. For us, Christ died, and through his death
and resurrection, we were adopted by the Father as sons and daughters into the
kingdom of light. Therefore, He qualified us to share in Christ’s glorious
inheritance. This “kingdom of light” is an unseen kingdom with blessings beyond
measure. Healing, peace, joy, favour, grace, protection, unlimited provision,
you name it… are all available in the kingdom of light. Paul's prayer for the
church should become our personal prayer for our lives and home. Just imagine
if such a prayer is answered. As the saying goes, don't knock it until you try
it. Pray. It is easier than complaining.
