I heard a
minister say once that "Fear Not" is found 356 times in the Bible, once
for everyday of the year. Another minister told me F.E.A.R. is the acronym for:
False Evidence Appearing Real. When you combine these two statements, you could
agree we need a "fear not" reminder daily, and quite often what we
fear never comes to pass. Recently I sent an email to a friend to be forwarded
to another friend. After I clicked the send button, I realized I sent it to the
wrong person and the content of the email, if it was not understood properly,
could create a problem between the person I accidentally sent it to and myself.
I was in turmoil and my heart pounded exponentially. I could not pull it back,
so I prayed, and prayed, and prayed some more for the Lord to give the
recipient understanding, so that my email was not taken out of context.
That same
day I received a message from the recipient and at first, she was a bit upset
but asked for an explanation. I provided the explanation and in doing so, God
used it to open a door for me to minister to the recipient. Our relationship
grew in just 24-hours, from an accidental email that had prompted fear. What I
thought would have been the result of the email, was False Evidence Appearing
Real. I had forgotten what the minister told me that there is a "Fear
Not" for every day of the year, and we should take heed and act
accordingly. It is a command if you will. The Lord said fear not, so let's not
entertain fear, for God is with us.
Our
Scripture today provides us with an antidote for fear. Taken from John 16:12-15,
Jesus said, “I have much more to say to you, more than you can bear now. But
when he, the Spirit of Truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He
will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell
you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that he will
receive what he will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine.
That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to
you”.
Here we
see a beautiful collaboration of the Godhead-- Father, Son and Holy Spirit
working in unison on our behalf. Jesus said the Spirit of Truth will guide us
into all truth, and he will tell us what is yet to come. Truth is passed from
God the Father, to Jesus, to the Holy Spirit, and then to us regarding all that
concerns our personal and social lives. We can obey and trust the Lord in all
matters even when we don't fully understand how the circumstance will turn out.
Truth is the antidote for fear. If I knew the truth that the accidentally sent
email would have opened the door for a greater purpose, I wouldn't have
entertained those fearful thoughts. Therefore, let's take a different approach
when those fearful thoughts enter our minds. Let us seek guidance from the
Spirit of Truth. When truth enters, fear will depart.
