Heaven's Ambassadors: Luke 10: 1-20

Christian believers are called “Ambassadors of Christ”. Now, when we understand the responsibilities of an Ambassador, we will take our duties more seriously. An Ambassador does not execute his or her duties in his country of citizenship. Their office is located in a foreign country that has diplomatic ties with their country. For example, an Ambassador of France, Spain, United States, Ireland, Scotland, Great Britain, Canada, India, South Africa, Israel, Jamaica, you name it, will not represent his or her country on that country's soil. Rather, such ambassador would be delegated to a foreign country as a representative of his or her country.

In today’s Scripture from Luke, Jesus chose seventy-two believers and sent them out two by two to minister to unbelievers, the sick, and needy. They were sent out like doctors in a sick world. I like to call believers “Heaven's Paramedics”. We have the word of truth; we are the light of the world, the salt of the earth, and are connected to a Kingdom that has all the sustenance this dying world needs. The seventy-two returned with joy saying, "Lord, even the devils submit to us when we use your name." And he said to them in reply, "I watched Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Yes, I have given you power to tread underfoot serpents and scorpions and the whole strength of the enemy; nothing shall ever hurt you. Yet do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you; rejoice rather that your names are written in heaven." (Luke 10:1-20).

Here we see the seventy-two ambassadors exceedingly happy because evil spirits submitted to them through the use of the name of Jesus. It is amazing the things that makes us rejoice, things that are really not such great matters for rejoicing. Jesus provided a different perspective of what we should rejoice in and where we should find joy. Of course, it is a marvellous thing to see someone delivered from evil spirits through the name of Jesus--but having our names written in heaven is the goal, the highest level, the apex for rejoicing. So, knowing that Jesus said we must rather rejoice because our names are written in heaven--I have a question for you my readers and fellow believers:

Are you carrying out your ambassadorial duties by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others so they too can enter the Kingdom of God and join us in rejoicing that their names are written in heaven? People are in search for such inner joy and peace that will give them the confidence of knowing that their names are written in heaven. Yet, ambassadors are needed to minister to them, not merely with words, but with Christlike actions. A simple feeding of the hungry, clothing of the naked, helping the poor, widows and orphans, and visiting the sick and prisoners. Let us represent our Lord's Kingdom by sharing the love of God through Jesus Christ, and using words only when necessary.
